Stress and Anxiety
Everyone worries or feels nervous from time to time. It is a normal human response to difficult situations. Anxiety becomes a problem when it interferes with a child’s ability to handle everyday situations, or keeps them from doing the things others their age enjoy. It is the most common emotional problem in children today. It makes life so much harder then it should be and limits their life experiences.
It might look like:
Trouble sleeping
Worrying a lot
Physical symptoms like frequent tummy and head aches
Refusing to go to school, play sports or have play dates
Getting in trouble at school
Difficulty concentrating at school
Being overly hard on themselves.
Untreated anxiety can keep children from making and keeping friends, being successful in school and/or participating in sports or other life activities.
I can help your child understand about worries and anxiety, teach them how to recognize anxious feelings, and help them develop their own personal coping strategies that they can keep in their life skills toolbox.
Some of the things we will work on are: body awareness, grounding & breathing strategies, triggers, thought processes, self talk and how to ask for help.
